University Counselling Service
The University Counselling Service exists to help students and staff get the most from their time at Curtin. Experienced staff provide a safe professional environment to deal with any issues affecting your work or study.
As a client of the Counselling Service, you can expect:
- To be treated with respect - including respect for your language, culture, religion and sexuality.
- That the service provided is competent, professional and ethical; and free of any harassment.
- To be aware that the service focuses on short-term therapy approaches, and that this will usually involve a limit of 10 counselling sessions available to you each year.
- That your counsellor will discuss the types of counselling options available and the duration of these.
- To receive a clear explanation on the confidentiality of personal information about you held by the service.
- To receive your individual counselling sessions free of charge.
All counsellors are well qualified professionals from a variety of backgrounds, experiences and qualifications, including counselling psychology, clinical psychology, social work and occupational therapy. The University Counselling Service is a multi-cultural organisation whose staff are used to cross-cultural issues and the difficulties linked to being away from home.
