Services for staff
Access
UCS services are free to all staff. This includes periods when the staff member is on leave and extends for three months following cessation of employment at Curtin.
Partners of a staff member also have free access to UCS on any matter relevant to the staff member's well-being. In addition UCS provides access to family members in the context of following up critical incidents.
Services
The University Counselling Service is your EAP (Employee Assistance Program) provider.
Services provided to staff include:
- general consultation on matters related to the EAP program
- personal counselling
- crisis and trauma counselling
- conflict resolution
- procedural/organisational advice
Matters which may be raised with a counsellor include:
- marital or other relationship difficulties
- substance abuse
- mental health problems
- assault - sexual or otherwise
- work-related difficulties
- interpersonal conflict
- redundancy and redeployment
- physical disabilities
- cross-cultural problems
The University may provide limited financial support for staff attendance at external services in circumstances approved by the Head of UCS.
Workshops
The Counselling Service will offer a range of group sessions in Semester Two, 2008. The topics will cover:

- “Sleep more, feel better!” –

Feedback from staff and students who took part in these groups shows that the program was very helpful in addressing issues that may be affecting work performance and/or study.
